Auditing AI covers everything from fatal errors by AI-powered military drones to biased HR algorithms and makes the case for why we need rigorous, independent audits of AI systems to protect the public. Following a brief reading, we will invite the audience to take a look at Philly’s ban on rent-fixing algorithms, which is currently being tested in court. With moderation by tech journalist Katie Malone, we’ll discuss the ban, the court challenge, and the practical ways that researchers, policymakers, and the public can work together to protect communities from the worst harms of AI systems.
